Designing new backends and modernising established systems. Architecture is shaped by the team and embedded in the code through engineering guidelines and automated architecture tests.

Financial controlling SaaS

Backend & architecture

A backend with solid foundations.

I designed and established substantial parts of the amc.NG SaaS backend, supporting iComps’ financial controlling applications.

Foundation & processing: .NET REST API with EF Core, engineering guidelines and architecture tests. Hangfire, background services, MQTT and caching support asynchronous workflows and integrations.
Quality in the team: TDD with xUnit, unit and architecture tests, plus code review for every ticket. E2E testing is developed in close collaboration with dedicated specialists.
Delivery & operations: A team of four to six delivers on a regular release cadence. GitLab automates build, tests, container builds and deployment; the application performs required database migrations automatically.
Observability & support: Serilog, Seq and health checks form the core. Depending on the service, OpenTelemetry adds traces and metrics; a custom Seq integration routes alerts into central Zabbix monitoring. This is backed by production support and troubleshooting.

Central authentication

Authentication & integration

One service. Multiple applications.

With iComps.Identity, I implemented a central authentication service for multiple applications, covering sign-in, multi-factor authentication, and password and session management.

Core capabilities: Sign-in, MFA, and password and session management are brought together in one shared service.
Identity & security: Deep work with OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect, including threat modelling, authorisation models and secure authentication flows.
Implementation: C# and .NET 10 with ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core and Microsoft SQL Server. Firebase for push MFA, Argon2 for password hashing.
Application integration: A NuGet client library supports integration of the service into connected applications.

TourEd

The digital hiking stamp collection

Own product & operations

Hiking meets software development.

TourEd brings together my love of hiking and software development. It combines stamping points from multiple providers on one map and tracks personal visits, including offline.

Backend & data: .NET 10, EF Core and SQLite. Provider-specific data imports, access rights and personal visit records form the core of the application.
Offline & synchronisation: As a PWA, TourEd can record visits offline and synchronise them when connectivity returns.
From idea to deployment: API, authentication, data imports and operation on my own infrastructure. The source code is publicly available on GitHub.

Public transport operators · 2015–2019

E-ticketing and authentication in the back office.

At SYSTEMTECHNIK, I worked on the monolithic back-office application for public transport operators. E-ticketing, transport network integrations and delegated authentication were parts of this shared solution.

E-Ticketing: Implementation of the VDV-KA specification for the e-ticketing system.
Interfaces: Integration with different transport networks and their ticketing solutions.
Authentication: Design and development of delegated authentication using OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect in ASP.NET Core 1.0, as part of the back-office application.

LfsService

Electronic delivery notes · 2005–2009

From initial design to a complete application.

LfsService was developed at PRAXIS EDV to manage electronic delivery notes. I designed the application independently and developed both the backend and frontend.

End-to-end responsibility: Sole responsibility for designing and developing the electronic delivery note management application.
Technical foundation: .NET Framework with Microsoft SQL Server; XML and SOAP for interfaces.
Recognition: Initiative Mittelstand innovation award, 2008 — Thuringia state winner.

Software for uninterruptible power supplies.

At USV AG in Eisenach, I developed software for the UPS systems’ SNMP module.

Development contribution: Software development for the equipment’s SNMP module.
Professional context: This development work complemented my responsibilities as commercial director and executive board member in building and organising the company.
